Yes. We start with a code audit to understand the system, write documentation as we go, and build up test coverage. Undocumented legacy code is the norm, not the exception.
What's included in a maintenance retainer?
Dependency updates, security patches, performance monitoring, bug fixes and a set number of hours for small improvements each month. Larger features are scoped and quoted separately.
Can you take over a codebase that was built by someone else?
Absolutely. We do this regularly. The handover process — access, documentation review, a discovery sprint — is structured and thorough. We don't start billing for full maintenance until we know the system.
